Kevin Hart Partners with Black-Owned Tea Company Ellis Island Tea

Ellis island tea Land’s investment with Kevin hart

Ellis Island tea is a women’s and black-owned business specializing in all-natural handcrafted teas. The recipe came from Nailah Ellis-Brown’s Jamaican great-grandfather Cyril Byron. Before her great-grandfather passed away he made sure to tell Nailah that the recipe was to be “Sold not Told”. She listened to him and got to work. After a year of working on the recipe in her mother’s kitchen, Nailah perfected it. She created a beautiful blend of smooth, rich herbal hibiscus tea. By the age of 20, she began selling the teas out of the trunk of her car in Detriot. She sold 32oz bottles for $8 per bottle and the brand quickly took off. After succeeding with selling out of her car Nailah went on to pitch to Whole Foods. This wasn’t an easy win in the beginning, but after several tries, she landed the deal. That “Yes” allowed her to have Ellis Island Tea on shelves in several different Whole Foods across the US as well as locations such as Costco and Sam’s Club.

“My resilience came straight from the city of Detriot by selling tea on the streets of Detroit out of the trunk of my car. This is how you be an entrepreneur one impossible thing after the next. I won’t have it any other way. “

Kevin Hart’s investment will help the brand in its expansion. This month, Ellis Island tea is set to be distributed in Walmart and will soon be available in CVS and Target. In a press release, Hart stated, “There were a lot of people pulling for Nailah. Her name just kept coming up and coming across my radar. So, I figured there had to be something to it.” With Kevin on board, the brand expects to reach more people and become even more successful. As the brand expands, we’ll be sure to be on the lookout for Ellis Island Tea.
